So Do Your Glasses or Contacts Get in the
Way of Your Lifestyle?

TC was a 14-year-old student, whose sporting interests included competitive swimming. She came for a vision check-up, as she was noticing her vision worsening, especially for the reading the blackboard, whiteboard and while watching TV.

She was diagnosed with myopia (short-sightedness).

So what were TC’s options?

  • The first option of course was spectacles.
However this was considered a poor option due to her heavy sporting commitments, and in the end she just didn't want to wear glasses for cosmetic reasons.
  • Traditional style contact lenses.
There were concerns here about the requirement for unsupervised contact lens wear at school, and the potential for losing a lens (or lenses) when swimming.
  • Laser refractive surgery.
Was ruled out immediately as TC was too young for this procedure.
  • Ortho-K overnight

Ortho-K overnight presented a better option than contact lenses as TC would not have it to handle contact lenses during the day. She would only need to wear her Ortho-K every second night. Her prescription is stable after using Ortho K for over two years. So TC is enjoying the convenience of clear vision all day for indoor and outdoor activities.

Are you serious with your sport, or you just don't want to have to wear glasses while you are young?
